Illustrative estimates based on typical projections

Artists mistakenly over-focus on getting playlisted and press.
The problem? These will only create temporary spikes in listeners. With little fan retention.

You're back to square one when your song is removed & the news cycle moves on.

Some artists waste years running in circles, chasing short-term metrics.
So what are your options?

1.2M+ streams

The Moon & I built up a steady following on Spotify using Meta ads: fans saved songs & made playlists. This engagement unlocked Discovery Mode & triggered Spotify's algorithm to boost his song to 1.2M+ streams in one year — without any label support or reliance on ads.

The Solution

Build your virtuous cycle

This is the main takeaway: Invest in yourself and plan for the long haul. You need to build a loyal fanbase that will stick around for every release, not just one song. We know how to leverage Meta Ads to build you a virtuous loop:

  1. Choose a song to promote.
  2. Ads find you real, active listeners.
  3. We optimize the ads' algorithm to find your ideal audience and amplify results.
  4. Your fanbase grows: they stream your catalog and are there for your next release.

When listeners follow you, save, and add your songs, it tells Spotify's algorithm to pay attention. These important metrics can help you unlock more features like Discovery Mode, Showcases, Discover Weekly, and more.

Simple, transparent.

FAQ

Can I run ads on an old song?
Yes! Good music is timeless. If you released a great song but it didn’t get the digital marketing it deserved, it’s probably worth trying ads.
I tried Meta Ads before. But didn't get great results. Should I try again?
Maybe you've tried running Meta ads before and didn't get amazing results. Most likely, they weren't run properly:

❌ Running traffic campaigns instead of Conversion campaigns
❌ Not installing tracking correctly
❌ Lack of experience in targeting & managing budgets
❌ Not A/B testing creatives
❌ Unoptimized landing pages
❌ Confusing "boosting a post" on Instagram with running ads in Ads Manager

For most cases, Meta Ads are always worth trying at least once when done properly. Think of it as a shortcut to getting your art in front of the right people and letting your music speak for itself.

Further, every song is different and will yield different results.
Who's a good fit?
Ads work for artists at all levels of their careers.

Emerging artists
You’ve just started releasing music or have been doing it for a few years. But you’re not consistently getting thousands of monthly listeners or followers. You’re relying on playlists to get listens.

Influencers/Content creators
You have a strong social media following. But few are tuning into your music.

Established artists
If you already have a devoted fan base, then you may not necessarily need ads. Contact us if you’d like to discuss a specific campaign such as breaking into a new market, promoting an event, or adding Meta ads to your marketing rollout.
Who is this NOT for?
If you're already getting 200k+ organic monthly listeners consistently, congrats!

Ads can still help you expand your reach further. But otherwise, if you're happy with your current growth rate, save your money and keep doing what you're doing!
How are you different from other marketing agencies?
We’re different in four important ways.

1. Artists-first. We’re artists and apply these marketing tactics ourselves — with proven results.

2. Experience. We previously worked at an agency based in San Francisco and helped hundreds of tech startup founders and marketers grow their businesses. This breadth of experience and unique vantage point has helped us become experts in paid ads.

3. Deep expertise. We know how to train the algorithm. Meta makes money when your ads are successful because it means you’ll keep using their platform. We know how to adjust targeting, what type of ads to run, how to A/B test, and do everything necessary to get your music in front of the right people.

4. Transparency. We use conversion tracking to see how many listeners on Spotify/Apple Music your ads get. Other agencies will pad their numbers by reporting low Cost-per-click numbers. Clicks are not the same thing as verified listens. Clicks can be triggered by bots or people who click an ad but never actually listen to your song.
What kind of results can I expect?
Think of it this way: ads help get your music in front of thousands of prospective new fans that dig your genre of music that you normally wouldn’t reach. Whether or not they’ll stick around depends on you: the quality of your music, your back catalog, your visuals, and so on. Every artist will have different results.

That said, the best campaigns generally yield a CPA (Cost-per-action) in the range of $0.14-$0.25 USD and an average CPA of $0.35-$0.44 in emerging markets. In other words, that’s how much it costs to get a person to listen to your song. The more you spend, the more listeners you’ll get.

Note: Watch out for bad marketers that tout low CPC (Cost-per-click) numbers. Clicks are not the same as listens. We use conversion tracking to measure real listeners, not just bot clicks.
Does the fee include ad spend? How much should I budget for ads?
It’s recommended to budget at least $300-500 USD on ad spend to see noticeable results. The ad spend budget is separate from our service rates. Ad spend is the money you pay directly to Meta and affects how many people will see your ads. In general, the more you spend, the more results you’ll get.
Can I keep running ads after the contract is up?
Yes, we don't want to lock anyone into a recurring monthly contract. Once the campaign is up, you're free to keep ads running by yourself.

However, note that Meta, Spotify, & Apple Music will continue to evolve as platforms, so we can't guarantee that your ads setup will always be up to date.

Alternatively, you can extend your contract for a small fee for us to continue optimization and maintenance work: A/B testing creatives, expanding targeting, budget reallocations, and more.
Can ads be profitable?
Yes and no.

In the short-term, probably not.
In the long-term, yes: You're making an investment in your career. For Spotify, growing your following can unlock new features that can significantly boost your listeners:
- Monetization after a song reaches 1,000 streams
- Unlocking Discovery Mode which will push your song on Spotify's algorithmic playlists
- Boosting your song on release week so it's more likely to be on playlists like Discover Weekly, Release Radar, and other algorithmic playlists.

As a case study, ads became profitable for indie artist "The Moon & I" where it helped them build a following over a few years and unlock Discovery Mode. Discovery Mode then boosted one of his song to 1.2M+ streams in one year without the use of ads.

The alternative — paying thousands for publicity or 3rd party playlists when you're an emerging artist — may feel good in the short-term, but has little impact over the long run. They still have their place in your marketing, but given a limited budget, running ads is arguably the best option.
